Preston

Preston is the administrative capital of Lancashire, set against a backdrop of countryside rich in heritage. The city has also become the retail, commercial and cultural centre for Lancashire and exhibits a buoyant and vibrant city centre. Preston is one of the oldest boroughs in the country, tracing its history back to 670 AD and the city is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. In 1179 Henry II granted the city its charter and since 1542 Preston has held a Guild celebration every 20 years, the most recent being in 1992.
