Alston

Located in the heart of the Pennines Alston is one of the forgotten gems of Cumbria. The cobblestone streets and alleys of the small village are so reminiscent of a bygone era that it was used as a backdrop to the latest TV adaptation of Charles Dickins’ Oliver Twist. It claims to be the highest market town in England at 290m although the market no longer takes place.
